#RueColor’s Bright Bedrooms

#RueColor’s Bright Bedrooms

Each year, we release an issue that’s entirely dedicated to color. It’s a project we look forward to for months to come. Neutrals have been having a major moment (aren’t they always??), so it’s endlessly refreshing to search for saturated, vibrant homes and products. This issue, we were especially inspired by the bold bedrooms!

In San Francisco, blogger Heidi Cailliers welcomed us into her recently redone abode. The walls and bedding are warm shades of white, but a rose-colored rug, a cerulean blue pillow, and plenty of plants serve up pops of color. The artwork, though mostly neutral, adds a harmonious connection to the darker accents of the pillow and rug. It’s subtle way to bring in bright hues without letting color take over the space.

On the other coast, designer Nicole Fuller’s NYC bedroom has a similar color palette, but the execution couldn’t be more different. Nicole also gravitated towards rosy hues, but in the form of an Italian marmorino plastic wall covering. On top, an abstract painting (done with white beeswax crayons) covers the entire wall. The room is filled with glamorous accents and no shortage of metallics. Offering up bold contrast is a blue chair that, admittedly, we’ve been obsessing over all week.

While the bedroom in this Little Rock penthouse designed by Tobi Fairley does not include any pink (aside from a small bouquet of roses atop the bedside table), it does offer one final lesson in allowing color to break up a mostly neutral space. Both the ceiling and drapes are a rich, inky blue (swoon!) with a complementary wallpaper adorning the walls. Even the chandelier is equipped with bulbs tipped in blue! Tobi opted to keep the rest of the space (furniture, bedding, rugs) mostly neutral so that it would feel like a sophisticated, relaxing retreat.

While all three bedrooms are vastly different, they all share one thing – a brilliantly subtle use of color. Which is your favorite??
